How much caffeine is in a cup of tea?

Well that depends on the type of tea used, normally compared to a cup of coffee the following is known to be true. (With slight differences due to amount of tea used, and steeping time) The tea with the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee is the mate. Second in the list of caffeinated teas are the blacks which contain about 20% of a normal cup of coffee. Teas on the low end for caffeine intake are the green, pu-erh’s and oolongs which normally contain about 10%. Tea’s based on white are found to contain no more than 1%, whereas teas such as Rooibos and Herbal contain no caffeine at all.

When thinking about the amount of calories in tea, one needs to first ask. Sugar or no sugar? Milk or no milk? Why that question is so paramount is based on the fact that tea itself has none to very little calories in and of itself. Most teas will have about 1 to 5 per bag of tea. So drink and be merry.

As answered in the last question this really boils down to if you add any sweetener or other sugar into the mix. While some teas do contain sweet bits and pieces, so far no teas have shown to have enough sugar within to rate as actually containing sugar.

Mate and black are star players when it comes to energizing and giving that va-va-voom that only caffeine can really give. The Mate however can assist with hunger and is full of vitamins and minerals. Whereas blacks are famous for their aid in the health of the circulatory system and they can add in heart health. Rooibos are an interesting tea and commonly given to children as it is caffeine free plus it can relieve upset stomachs. Not to mention it aids in both the digestive system and the immune system. Pu-erh’s are often used to lower cholesterol and help with weight loss. Also never to forget about the chai’s which are a great alternative to coffee and help to reduce inflammation not to mention this tea is also rich in antioxidants. So it’s all about what you’re looking for and what you desire the tea to do for you.

Tea can last 2-3 weeks if not sealed correctly (i.e. within a tin or sealed bag).However in a tin canister, tea can last up to a year.
